Support new Motorsports venue in Snoqualmie

We need to get as many letters out to the city council of Snoqualmie as we can. A new event venue for racing and motorsports events is trying to get annexed in to the Snoqualmie city limits to avoid the noise ordinance of king county. Stumpjumpers has an open invitation to hold club events there provided the annexation goes through.

You can write a short letter to the Snoqualmie city council stating you are in favor of the Mill planning annexation. Please email you letters to the Jodi Warren. jwarren@ci.snoqualmie.wa.us

This could be a huge benefit to the off-road community

Thank you for your help.

BRC LAND USE UPDATE -- BREAKING NEWS: SALAZAR TO BACK DOWN ON WILDLANDS POLICY

BREAKING NEWS: SALAZAR TO BACK DOWN ON WILDLANDS POLICY

Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber,

It seems the Obama Administration has realized it over-reached with the December 2010 Secretarial Order establishing the Wildlands Policy.  The Associated Press is reporting that Department of Interior Secretary Ken Salazar has today signed a memo saying his agency will not designate any "Wildlands."

The AP reports Salazar intends to work instead on efforts to "work with members of Congress to develop recommendations for managing millions of acres of undeveloped land in the West."

See:
APNewsBreak: Obama abandons wilderness plan
http://www.sfexaminer.com/politics/2011/06/apnewsbreak-obama-abandons-wilderness-plan

The impacts of this announcement on access and recreation on vast areas of public lands is not readily evident, but it certainly appears to us the DOI made the only reasonable decision since BLM lands have already been inventoried for wilderness characteristics. Those lands meeting the criteria are Wilderness Study areas and have been managed to protect wild character for many years.

Many other BLM lands remain attractive and available for a variety of recreation uses. We look forward to working with Congress and the agency to plan the management of these lands for all recreationists now and in the future.

NMA LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

Howdy folks,

As the Legislative session is possibly close to wrapping up, once again our Nonhighway and Offroad Vehicle Activities (NOVA) account funds are at risk.  It is time to let your Legislators know that you expect them to do the right thing and make sure that the ORV permit money and ORV use gas tax money goes to the right place.

Hopefully this is the last tough section of the course. Wick the throttle one more time and get us to the finish line.

Here is a sample message.
Use it or much better yet, make your own.

Oh, if you don’t know how to contact your legislators, go to www.leg.wa.gov

Happy trails,
Tod

++++++++

Dear (Senator or Representative xxx),

When considering capital budget legislation, please keep the Nonhighway and Offroad Vehicle Activities (NOVA) account in mind.

The NOVA account is only completely self funded form of trail based recreation is our State.

This account was created when offroad vehicle users volunteered to waive their legal right to a fuel tax refund in exchange for a self-directed state account to provide funding for programs that benefited offroad vehicle activities.

These same citizens volunteered to have their license tab fees increased so long as those monies were also placed in the Non Highway and Offroad Vehicle Activities (NOVA) account.

To redirect the funding away from the NOVA account again would be acting extremely unfairly to the very same citizens that willing gave and entrusted the state their hard earned money.

Respectfully,

(your name)

Happy trails,

Goldenspike few weeks away, June 4th & 5th

Hey racers, the 2011 Goldenspike is only few weeks away, June 4th & 5th in Packwood, WA.

If you have not raced the Goldenspike before, the race course in Packwood is one of the most unique in the Northwest. It combines a mixture of tight trails, pavement "road race course", endurocross section(s), and many other features you won't find at other races.

Camping is available on pavement, and the town of Packwood is a great place to visit.

Congratulations to YOU. YOU did it! SB 5800 signed into law yesterday!

THE WASHINGTON STATE LEGISATURE HAS PASSED LEGISLATION PERMITTING OFFROAD
MOTORCYCLE TO STREET USE CONVERSION
Olympia, Washington  19 April 2011

The Legislature has passed and the Governor signed SB5800. This bill would
allow properly equipped and documented off-road motorcycles to be legally
converted to street use.

This common sense piece of legislation was passed with strong bipartisan
support, 46 to 2 in the Senate and 96 to 0 in the House of Representatives.

SB5800 was sponsored by Senators Curtis King, Mary Margaret Haugen, Paul
Shin and strongly supported by the Washington Off Highway Vehicle Alliance,
the Northwest Motorcycle Association and a large number of offroad
motorcycle enthusiasts.

With many offroad motorcycle trails being fragmented by road building and
timber harvesting, there is a growing number of riders that would like the
opportunity to make their motorcycles legal to use the forest roads to
connect the otherwise lost trails.

The equipment requirement compliance inspection will be accomplished by
motorcycle dealerships and the owner of the motorcycle will have to sign a
statement that releases the State from all liability and acknowledges that
they are aware that the motorcycle was not manufactured for street use and
has been modified to be suitable for that purpose.

The Washington State Patrol did not oppose this bill and stated before the
Senate Transportation Committee that properly modified offroad motorcycles
would not be any less safe than other street motorcycles.

Rural communities would also benefit when these motorcyclists are able to
travel into their towns and enhance the local economy.

Other states have enacted similar laws and they have proven to be a safe and
effective solution.
With the additional fees involved, this will also be a revenue positive
change for the State of Washington.
